Community Planning & Empowerment

The premise of Community Planning & Empowerment is that any real, lasting solution must come from the community itself. ERCDC believes that developing "human capital" is the key to achieving and sustaining community revitalization. Building upon community commitment, knowledge, strength, and applying its knowledge in housing and business development to a broad-based revitalization effort, ERCDC has adopted a community building strategy that is inclusive of the following three initiatives:

Leadership Development:
Increase resident involvement and foster new leadership by providing the community with a different set of lenses to view and assess their neighborhood. Creating an infrastructure where new and existing leaders could come to exchange ideas, receive technical assistance/training and become better advocates for their community.

Knowledge Management: The collection of information (data, demographics, development projects, programs, services, organizations, etc.) concerning the Ward 8 community for the purpose of distribution and education within the community at-large, to prompt the community and organizations to take a proactive role in the revitalization of their community and accurately and regularly assess gaps in community services.

Workforce Development: Workforce Development seeks to address the needs of residents in the community to obtain a living wage thereby encouraging self-sufficiency and homeownership. Promoting job creation through the building of businesses as well as the preparation of residents through job training and soft skills training.
